Morley’s Final Catalogue: Abundant everywhere on Lotus corniculatus, sure to be numerous in Suffolk though recorded only from Brandon by Barrett. I have looked for it without avail (Whit).
Recent Status: There are recent Suffolk records.
Life Style: The moth flies from May to August. The larvae initially mine a leaf of Lotus species and then feed from a portable case. They hibernate and pupate near the ground.
Identification: The moth is similar to C. genistae from which it can only be reliably separated by genitalia dissection. The forewings are buff with a sharply defined white costal stripe. There is a narrow white stripe on the fold and a short one at mid wing around two thirds. The dorsum is also paler. The larvae mine producing a blotch. They then construct a case from pieces of leaf cuticle. The case has a narrow hooked anal end and expands considerably towards the oral end with clearly visible laterally flattened cylinders of leaf pieces. More Info
