Recent Status: A common species in Britain and across Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded summer flying species that comes to light. The limited list of foodplants often given in literature can be expanded by it having been found extensively on Verbascum and on Hop. They will feed beneath a leaf or will fold a leaf. Larvae overwinter and pupate in a cocoon in spring.

Identification: The unmistakeable Small Magpie moth with white, black spotted wings and orange and black spotted head and thorax. The abdomen is striped with all three colours.
