The larvae feed on a great variety of herbaceous and woody plant and tree leaves. It is particularly partial to wetland species, both inland and coastal. They pupate in a cocoon in the larval spinnings.

The colours include, white, cream, brown, fuscous, orange, grey and deep reddish brown. The markings are darker and vary in intensity and extent and may be completely absent. The standard markings are small spots, a band from the costa at one third with an irregular leading edge widening and becoming diffuse towards the tornus.
