Status
Morley’s Final Catalogue: A marsh species, on Willow herb, rarely seen wild. Occasionally at Ipswich electric lights in 1895-9; in Monks Soham garden and light in July and August (Mly); Beccles (Crf); in all Brandon marshes (Barrett). The form latiorana, Stn., occurred in Aldeburgh salt-marshes on 14 July 1890 (Ctw. EMM. xxvii, 50); and a dark form at Hemley in 1930-4 (Whit).

Recent Status: Locally common in Suffolk, particularly on salt-marshes.

Life Style: A single brooded species with a partial second brood. It can be found from May to November and comes to light. The larvae feed on a great variety of herbaceous and woody plant and tree leaves. It is particularly partial to wetland species, both inland and coastal. They pupate in a cocoon in the larval spinnings.

Identification: The male has a costal fold. The species has broad wings. At rest it shows a square ended appearance. It is exceedingly variable. The colours include, white, cream, brown, fuscous, orange, grey and deep reddish brown. The markings are darker and vary in intensity and extent and may be completely absent. The standard markings are small spots, a band from the costa at one third with an irregular leading edge widening and becoming diffuse towards the tornus. There is an elongate costal blotch at four fifths. http://www.lepiforum.de/lepiwiki.pl?Clepsis_Spectrana
