Morley’s Final Catalogue: A very local species among hops. Leiston (Grey); Flixton near Bungay (Ctw): both records before 1890.
Recent Status: Found locally across Suffolk.
Life Style: A single brooded species flying during May, June and July and comes to light. The larvae mine leaves of Humulus. They hibernate in a cocoon in which they then pupate.
Identification:Cosmopterix species require careful examination of the pattern to separate the species. C. zieglerella has a patch, sometimes broken in the basal part of the wing and on the side of the thorax. The terminal dash is reduced to two short dashes. The larvae mine a distinctive mine with side galleries either side of the mid-vein. More Info
