Teleiodes vulgella

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Fairly frequent everywhere on hawthorn. Ipswich in 1896 (Pyett) and in 1930, Bentley (Whit.); Grundisburgh in July 1898 (Mly); Blaxhall (Hkr); Flixton (Ctw).

Recent Status: A species recorded across Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded species flying from May to August. The larvae feed on Crataegus, Prunus spinosa, Sorbus aucuparia and Cotoneaster horizontalis between flatly spun leaves. They pupate in a flimsy cocoon on the ground in the year following oviposition.

Identification: Triangular at rest with the anterior end inclined. The grey or light brown forewings are irrorate white and have three oblique lines of black scale tufts preceded by white scales. The third row is dominant resembling a fascia. The costa is variably marked black.
