Recent Status: The species is recorded across Suffolk.

Life Style: The moth is double brooded flying during April, May, July and August. The larvae mine leaves of deciduous Quercus species.

Identification: The moth is unicolorous dark bronze brown with purple reflections towards the wing tip. The head tuft is black on the male and orange on the female. The collar and scape are whitish. Genitalia dissection is required for identification. More Info
The larva creates a gallery from an ovum on the upper side of a leaf. The mines vary seasonally and are indistinguishable from those of S. roborella since that species may lay the ovum on either side of the leaf. More Info
