Morley’s Final Catalogue: Found abundantly about hawthorn at Newmarket (Warren).

Recent Status: A common species in Suffolk.

Life Style: A double brooded species flying during April, May and August. The larvae mine leaves of Crataegus.

Identification: The moth is coarse scaled bronze grey. The head tuft is light orange the collar paler and the scape whitish. The moth can be identified by breeding out from a mine or by genitalia dissection. More Info
The larva creates a gallery from an ovum on the upper side of a leaf usually close to a vein. The gallery is wider, shorter and more sinuous than that of S. crataegella and the larva is yellow. More Info
