Morley’s Final Catalogue: Beaten from birch in Bentley Woods in May 1930 (Mly), common there on oak-trunks and round Ipswich in 1897-1902 (Pyett); Foxhall and Staverton, 1930-5 (Whit.); Leiston (Grey); at Fritton light in 1936. Brandon, on pine railing 1918 (Mly).

Recent Status: Suffolk’s commonest Carpatolechia particularly amongst Birch.

Life Style: A single brooded species with a long flight period over the summer. The larvae feed from an upwardly folded leaf of Betula or Alnus. They pupate on the ground in a loose cocoon.

Identification: The forewing is white or cream, marked with black as scattered scales and prominent spots and bars. The wing tip edges are chequered. There is a specific pattern. More Info
