Ypsolopha sequella

Morley’s Final Catalogue: A local maple-feeder. Flixton (Ctw); Shrubland in 1929 (Whit.). Found by Wratislaw in Norton Wood (since 1870 worked by no one, but occasionally Tuck); bred at Timworth in 1911 (Nurse); Mildenhall in Sept. 1937 (Burton).

Recent Status: Relatively common and widely recorded in Suffolk..

Life Style: A single brooded species flying from June to September. The larvae feed from a slight web on the leaves of Acer campestre and occasionally A. pseudoplatanus. They pupate on the ground or the trunk of the tree in a soft white cocoon.

Identification: A strikingly and clearly marked species in white marked black or sometimes with an ochre tinge. Y. vittella is similar but the ground colour in that species is usually grey and the black markings slightly different.
