Phyllonorycter cavella

Zeller, 1846338 / 15.059

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Not listed.

Recent Status: A scarce species in Suffolk.

Life Style: The moth is usually single brooded flying between May and July. The larvae feed on Betula. They pupate in a cocoon in the larval habitation.

Identification: The adult moth is characterised by a prominent white mark in advance of the terminal black spot. The first dorsal and costal marks commonly and some of the terminal three marks are joined.
The larval stage makes a blister blotch on the underside of a leaf. They can be identified but must be separated from the common P. ulmifoliella by the size at maturity, 15 to 20mm long and having from 7 to 12 creases in the lower epidermis. P. ulmifoliella is shorter and has fewer creases. More Info
