Platytes alpinella

Morley’s Final Catalogue: This very local sandy-coast species was discovered at Hemley in 1903 (Wir) and Lowestoft in 1922 (Ent. 1922, 258). Sutton Heath in 1934 (Bp.).

Recent Status: A species of dry sandy habitats that as a consequence is found in Breckland, Sandlings and on the coast.

Life Style: A single brooded summer flying species that comes to light. The larvae feed on mosses.

Identification: Platytes alpinella has brown forewings, darker on the costal side and a white central streak. The white streak is sharply defined on the costal edge and reaches the indent termen. There are acutely twice angled brown median and sub-terminal lines. The moth has prominent rough scaled palps.
