Morley’s Final Catalogue: A south British species, extending north to only Norfolk. Hitherto overlooked: taken in Greenacres Lane at Gorleston on 5 June 1931 (Mly).
Recent Status: The 1931 record remains for East Suffolk. There are records in Norfolk and the species is a very rare immigrant.
Life Style: A single brooded species flying during late summer and coming to light. It is a wetland species the larvae feeding on sedges. It has a preference for acid wetlands where the White-beaked Sedge Rhyncospora alba grows.
Identification:Crambus silvella has an indent forewing termen with black spots on the dorsal half. The white streak is clear of the costa, except at the very base and of a fairly even width until narrowing abruptly before an interruption and then reaching the sub-terminal line. It is interrupted at the sub-terminal line but continues on to the termen. There is no spur along the dorsal edge of the streak.
