Recent Status: This is a coastal species in Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded species flying from June to August. The larvae mine Bolboschoenus maritumus, Juncus gerardii and Juncus compressus. They pupate under a slight web away from the mine.
Identification: This species is one of four Elachista species, E. scirpi, E. eleochariella, E. utonella and E. albidella that unless a near perfect specimen is available cannot reliably be identified without genitalia dissection. https://mothdissection.co.uk/species.php?Tx=Elachista_scirpi They all have an elongate dark spot at around two fifths above the dorsum on a pale wing marked with ochre.
The larvae of E. scirpi are pale. The mine on Bolboschoenus is conspicuous, short, broad and whitish green on the upper part of a leaf.
