Status Morley's Final Catalogue: By no means so 'common' as Bloomfield would have us believe. Never seen at Monks Soham during thirty years' residence (Mly); and quite rare at light in Ipswich, 1893-1904 (Baylis, Pyett). No recent records, except near Aldeburgh (Trans. ii, 295), freely at Hemley sugar in 1901 (Wlr); Covehithe at light in 1936 (Gd); one in Burgh Castle marshes in 1929 (Wiltshire).
Recent Suffolk Status: Common.
Life history: Single-brooded. Can be seen in numbers at some sites. Has been the odd record in the autumn in recent years.
Identification: Unmistakeable.
Habitat: Grassland, heathland, coastal sites, open woodland.Recorded in 49 (84%) of 58 10k Squares. First Recorded in 1893. Last Recorded in 2023. |
