Morley's Final Catalogue: Broad spread, but distinctly scarce. Ipswich rarely, Waldringfield; Woodbridge (Major Moor); Needham, Stowmarket, Bury, Tuddenham, Brandon. Bungay (Mn), Beccles; Gorleston in July 1928 and 1932 (Mr).
Recent Suffolk Status: Local.
Life history: Single-brooded. Can be seen flying over the foodplant at dusk as well as sparingly at light. Larvae have been found by searching inside seedheads and flowers of the foodplant.
Identification: Virtually unmistakeable, but see Pinion-spotted pug.
Habitat: Woodland glades and rides, gardens, grassland, hedgerows, coastal areas.Recorded in 29 (50%) of 58 10k Squares.
