Status
Morley’s Final Catalogue: Much overlooked; probably abundant on oaks in Bentley Woods, where it was taken (Pyett) on 29 June 1901; unobserved elsewhere with us.
Recent Status: Not much commoner than with Morley.
Life Style: Single brooded flying during summer. Day flying and comes to light. The larvae feed on deciduous Quercus from between two leaves where they latter pupate before leaf-fall.
Identification: Strophedra have broader rounder wings with a rounded apex when compared to similar small Olethruetinae. S. nitidana is the smaller and browner of the two and shows the markings more clearly than the darker often sooty S. weirana. S. nitidana may also show plumbeous fascia not present in S. weirana.Recorded in 10 (17%) of 58 10k Squares.
