Morley's Final Catalogue: Regarded as 'not uncommon' throughout the County by Bloomfield, and too general to locate. But our sole records since 1890 are from Bury, where it was taken in 1898 (Tuck) and bred from larvae (Sparke).

Recent Suffolk Status: Was extinct but seen again in 1999 at Landguard, Felixstowe (N. Odin, M. Marsh) and recolonization was fairly rapid after that. Now local, mainly near large towns and villages.

Life history: Double-brooded. Recorded at light in small numbers, even where larvae have been found commonly. Adults occasionally found at rest on walls by day.
Larvae are regularly found on the foodplant flowerheads, sometimes in numbers, along road verges, waste ground and at coastal sites.

Identification: Large ranunculus is a much larger species. Broad-barred white has the black band across the wing.

Habitat: Road verges, coastal sites, waste ground, gardens.

Recorded in 24 (41%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1898.
Last Recorded in 2023.
