Morley's Final Catalogue: Generally distributed and not frequent. Brandon, where colour-forms approaching var. molybdeola, Gn. (sericea, Greg.) often occur; Bentley, Ipswich, Aldeburgh: ante 1890. Ipswich, Foxhall, Monks Soham; common at Blythburgh 1934; Lowestoft (Entom. 1922, 258).

Recent Suffolk Status: Widespread and abundant.

Life history: Single-brooded in the summer. Another footman species which is appearing occasionally in the autumn in recent years.

Identification: Rests with wings rolled tightly around the body. The forewings are silvery-grey with yellow streak on whole length of the costa. The thorax is grey with orange collar. Confusion species are Common Footman for the inexperienced (rests with wings held flat) and the much rarer Hoary Footman, which has pure white hindwings and much longer legs.

Habitat: In a wide variety of habitats.
