Choristoneura hebenstreitella

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Usually common on oak and birch, but not here. Suffolk about 1870 (Wrt); in Bentley Wood during July 1902 (Gbs).

Recent Status: A rare species in Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded species flying May to July. The larvae feed from spun leaves on a variety of deciduous trees and shrubs. The larvae hibernate and pupate in the larval habitation.

Identification: The male has a costal fold. The colour varies from pale yellow ochre through to grey. This species is similar in appearance to Pandemis species but the central band has a clear break just short of the costa. The costal section is narrow and the dorsal section extends diffusely towards the termen. The females are larger than the males with an extended apex. More Info
