Morley’s Final Catalogue: A sallow-feeder, termed common in England though recorded with us from only Flixton (Crutwell).

Recent Status: Occurs sparingly at locations with established Salix species.

Life Style: Single brooded, night flying and comes to light. The larvae feed from spun terminal leaf clusters of Salix species. Pupates in a cocoon on the ground.

Identification: The species has a complex colour pattern with similarities to the much smaller A. purpurea. The forewing may be darker towards the base with a prominent basal dash and pale or white beyond on the wing, thorax and head. The twin spots are usually joined with the wing pale posterior to them. The central spot is scarcely evident but there is a white sometimes black backed spot beyond. There is a pale fascia from the costa in the terminal third of the wing and the termen has spots. There is commonly a red brown colour along the dorsum which may also be present in front of the twin spots and along the costa.

Recorded in 7 (12%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1964.
Last Recorded in 2017.
