Sciota hostilis

1447 / 62.016

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Not listed.

Recent Status: In Suffolk the species was discovered for the first time near the coast in south east Suffolk during 2019. It seems likely that the species arrived as immigrant individuals.

Life Style: A single brooded summer flying species that comes to light. The larvae feed on Populus tremula leaves and pupate in a cocoon to overwinter.

Identification: Sciota hostilis is a rather dull species that lacks the upright stance of the related S. adelphella. Whilst the general forewing patterning typical of Sciota is evident the lack of sharp colour patterning will distinguish this species. The genitalia difference from Sciota rhenella is slight. The male viniculum and uncus are both broader and the small process at the base of the valvae is less pronounced in S. hostilis.
