Aglossa caprealis

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Extremely locally common only, among chaff and maize. Whitton and Bramford (Garrett, before 1890). Common in one stable at Wixhoe and in another at Clare-Stoke (Fitch, Trans. Ent. Soc., Dec. 1883).

Recent Status: Recorded in each vice county.

Life Style: The moth flies during summer and comes to light and may also be found resting at larval feeding locations. The larvae feed on plant detritus such as chaff and straw. They overwinter and pupate in a cocoon.

Identification: Aglossa caprealis has a white to sandy brown wing heavily mottled with dark brown or black. In particular there is a dark basal band and a strip parallel and just short of the dorsum. More Info
