(Linnaeus, 1758)1417 / 62.072

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Generally distributed and not uncommon among corn debris, in pigeon-cotes, stables, &c. Ipswich, Monks Soham light, Debenham, &c, to Gorleston; not noticed in the west.

Recent Status: The species is well recorded across Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded species with a partial second generation. The moth flies at night and comes to light but can also be seen on walls in location where the larval food of cereal waste and detritus is found. The larvae feed on stored cereals as well as waste in a variety of locations including sheds, stables and bird housing. They feed from a silken gallery and pupate in a cocoon in that location.
