Endothenia ustulana

(Haworth, 1811)1101 / 49.190

Morley’s Final Catalogue: Not listed. However the Morley record for E. pullana is likely to be for this species. (A single example of this local kind, that feeds in rootstocks
of bugle, was taken at Aldeburgh during 1892 (Ctw).)

Recent Status: A number of records for the species in Ipswich.

Life Style: A single brooded species that flies by day during June, July and August. The larvae feed on the rootstock of Ajuga reptans where they hibernate and then in the stems during spring. They pupate in or about the larval habitation.

Identification: This species and E. pullana are similar and variable. They are marked in dark brown to black and plumbeous grey fasciae. Costal strigulae may be whitish and some of the darker fasciae may be edged whitish or ochreous. Worn specimens are only reliably separated by genitalia dissection. More Info
