Recent Status: A single specimen of this mostly northern species found during 2015 at Purdis Farm, Ipswich.

Life Style: This is a single brooded species that flies in June, July and August. The larvae are known to feed on Empetrum nigrum, Calluna, Kalmia procumbens, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi and Vaccinium oxycoccus. Whilst the species is primarily found on upland moors it is also resident in Hampshire and Surrey so it is not impossible that it is, or may become, resident on Suffolk heathland.

Identification: The moth is an easily recognised strikingly marked species. The larvae feed from a long silken tube they construct on the plant that takes them from ground level to the feeding place.
