Morley’s Final Catalogue: Surprisingly scarce, among sallow. A few in Bentley Woods in August 1895, and a few specimens at Monks Soham light in August 1928-37 (Mly); Ipswich (Freeman); Hemley in 1905 (Wir) ; Leiston (Grey) ; Blythburgh )Vood in early September (D and Gd), Southwold (Ctw) ; Lowestoft (Bd). Unnoted in west. Form latifasciana, Haw., has occurred at Beccles (Crf).

Recent Status: The species disappeared from Suffolk following Morley’s time but has recently (2015) reappeared and spread across the county.

Life Style: Flies at night and comes to light. Is double brooded the autumn brood hibernates. The larvae feed from a spun twist of a leaf of Viburnum spp.

Identification: The species has a characteristic scale tuft pattern. The ground colour varies from grey through yellow, orange and reddish brown and can be quite dark overall. The extent of the markings also varies considerably. The species has wider shoulders and relatively longer wings that A. laterana which can be similar in some forms.
