Morley’s Final Catalogue: Frequent by hedge-beating. Copdock, Bentley, Ipswich, Felixstow in July, Monks Soham garden in June, Campsea Ash, abundant at Aldeburgh, Southwold, Flixton; Timworth.

Recent Status: Less common in Suffolk than in Morley’s time.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded flying from May to early August and coming to light. The eggs are laid is small batches with a protective covering. The larvae feed on a vast range of herbaceous, shrub and tree leaves.

Identification: The adult moth has a cream to grey wing colour flecked with brown or black. There is a basal patch, an irregular central band, a tornal patch and a pre-apical mark extending towards mid-termen. These markings range in colour from brown with dark brown flecked edges to dark grey with black flecked edges. Poorly marked grey specimens appear similar to some Cnephasia species. More Info
