Status
Morley’s Final Catalogue: Hemley in 1932 -(Whit.); single example flew in to Monks Soham light during October 1933 (Mly); Timworth (Nurse).

Recent Status: One of the commoner Mompha species in Suffolk.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded flying from June till September and comes to light. The larvae mine a blotch in leaves of Epilobium hirsutum, E. montanuum, E. palustre and E. tetragonum. They pupate in a cocoon in various locations.

Identification: The moth has a white head and thorax when seen from above. There is a white pre-apical patch, The white costal marks beyond the pre-apical patch are set in brown with a black streak mid-termen. These characters separate it from the similar M. lacteella. Freshly emerged specimens may show some ochreous colour on the thorax.
