Recent Status: A rare species in Suffolk.
Life Style: A single brooded species flying during May and June. The larvae mine leaves of Lotus species. They pupate in a cocoon on the ground.
Identification: The moth is coarse scaled dark grey or black with a slight pale tornal mark. The collar and thorax are dark the scape whitish and the head tuft deep dull orange ochre. The moth can be identified by breeding out from a mine or by genitalia dissection. More Info The larva initially creates a narrow gallery from an ovum on the underside of a leaf. They head towards the leaf base. They then create a large blotch placing the frass towards the leaf base. The mine is similar to that of T. eurema and must be reared to the moth for identification. T. eurema adult moths have clear pale opposing tornal and opposite costal spots or a fascia. More Info | Determination by Genitalia Examination (gen. det.) Required | |
