Life Style: Single brooded species that fly during June, July and August. The larvae mine the live bark of deciduous Quercus species.
Identification: These two species of the sub-genus Zimmermannia in Britain. E. atrifrontella and E. longicaudella. The latter has yet to be recorded in Suffolk. The species in this genus are large Ectoedemia with pale wings showing a peppering of black scales and indistinct paler tornal spot. They have black head tufts and a white scape. E. atrifrontella has a whitish thorax. It is black in E. longicaudella. They can also be separated by genitalia dissection.
