Morley's Final Catalogue: Breeds in the bark of felled oak-stools, emerging the second year. Rarely seen, but doubtless commoner than thought.

Recent Suffolk status: Fairly widespread in the county and one of the more regularly recorded clearwing species. Occasionally noted around Oak stumps.
More records in recent years with the use of pheromones.

Life history: Single-brooded, flying in from late spring throughout the summer.

Identification: Black body with yellow bands and yellow legs are distinctive.

Habitats: Scrub, woodlands, gardens.
