Morley's Final Catalogue: Less common than the last kind. Hitherto noted at Ipswich (bred in 1893 - Morley), Hacheston, Stowmarket, Bury, Tuddenham (Sparke) and Southwold (Ctw).

Recent Suffolk Status: Local. Has possibly increased in the county in recent years.

Life history: Double-brooded. Has been noted from April till October in Suffolk. Regular at light in small numbers.

Identification: Similar to Spectacle. Dark spectacle is darker in colour and has the basal area close to the thorax straw or reddish brown in colour, this area being pale grey in Spectacle.

Habitat: River valleys, marshes, hedgerows, gardens.

First Recorded in 1893.
Last Recorded in 2023.
