Recent Suffolk Status: A single county record of this very rare immigrant species to the UK at Landguard, Felixstowe on 26.09.2023 (N. Odin). Most records are from the south-west of the UK. Increasing as an immigrant species to Britain.
Life history: Multi-brooded.
Identification: Small mottled willow rests with its wings wrapped around the body, unlike Dark mottled willow which rest with wings teniform. Small mottled willow also has an orange kidney mark (dark brown in Dark mottled willow). Pale mottled willow has a much broader forewing, a row of black dots along the costa and part of the kidney mark is dark brown.
