Status Morley's Final Catalogue: Ubiquitous, and often common at both sugar and light; of uncertain appearance, and not seen here by me during 1891-1899 (Mly). Recently in Ipswich marshes, Waldringfield, Southwold, abundant at Monks Soham light, Gorleston sugar and Mildenhall.
Recent Suffolk Status: Very common.
Life history: Single-brooded. Larvae regularly found during the winter and early spring in the county in recent years, mainly at night feeding on various grasses in heathland habitats.
Identification: Hedge rustic is a smaller moth and has a very obvious white hindwing.
