Morley's Final Catalogue: So extremely rare as to be most probably extinct. Recorded from Needham Market by the late Mr. Henry Lingwood, and presumably now in his collection at Bury Museum; and from Gorleston (Entom. 1879, p.294). No later observations.
Recent Suffolk Status: Local, mainly along the coast with occasional wandering individuals inland. Has become much more common in recent years.
Life history: Single-brooded.
Identification: Marbled beauty is normally greyer in colour and has the inner cross line fully across the wing from the costa to the base.
Habitat: Coastal areas where there are growths of lichen, including vegetated shingle.
