Status
Morley's Final Catalogue: Levelly distributed; usually singly and regarded as a prize. Bury (Wrl, Suff. Inst. 4ly Journ. 1869, 23; Proc. iv, 1870, 221); Fornham (Norgate); Newmarket. Ipswich, Brandeston, Needham, Stowmarket, Beccles (ante 1890). Ipswich, at electric light in September 1894 (Mly), in 1899 (Platten) and pupae dug near that town (Sparke). Hemley and Kessingland (EMM. 1904, 81); Henham in 1934 (Btn); Bungay (Mn). Larvae sometimes plentiful on ash at dusk in late April at Waldringfield (Wlr). Two at light in Sotterly on 8 September 1937 (Gd).

Recent Suffolk Status: Fairly common and widespread.

Life history: Single-brooded. Records in Suffolk into October.
Larvae have been found on Ash trees at dusk and also inside a bird box on an Ash tree in the daytime.

Identification: Unmistakeable.

Habitat: Woodland, river valleys, gardens.

Recorded in 53 (91%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1894.
Last Recorded in 2023.
