Morley's Final Catalogue: Has occurred at Stowmarket, but is not found there every year (Stainton's Manual 1857, 130). Aldeburgh (Hele, Notes 1870, 186). One old pair, without data (in coll. Morley). Still needs confirmation, as Bloomfield remarked in 1890, which is now difficult to obtain.

Recent Suffolk status: Formerly a scarce immigrant species to the county, but since 2019 records have increased dramatically as the moth has colonised the county from introduced naturalized populations around London. First larval record was also in 2019.

Identification: Female Black arches has a pointed abdomen, while female Gypsy moth has a blunt abdomen.
