Morley's Final Catalogue: Not very frequent. Bred at Stowmarket in 1854 (C); occasionally at both Playford and Brandeston (Gr: Nat. 1858, 111). Ipswich, Leiston, Lound; Needham and Tuddenham: before 1890. At light in Copdock in May 1896 (Hkg) and at electric light in Ipswich (Mly, Baylis, Pyett); Martlesham (D), recently at Blythburgh (Mly), Beccles and Gorleston (Mr), Hopton.

Recent Suffolk Status: Widespread and common. Larvae found occasionally.

Life history: Double-brooded.

Identification: Easily identified with reference to pebble marking at apex of forewing.

Habitat: Woodland, parkland, gardens, scrub, wetlands, wet woodland, hedgerows.

Recorded in 56 (97%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1896.
Last Recorded in 2023.
