Status Morley's Final Catalogue: Occurs in all our larger woodlands and denser thickets. Bures, commonly in Bentley Woods, less about Ipswich; Henley and Westerfield (Sparke); Hacheston, Swefling, Needham, Stowmarket, Bury. Yet lingers in deforested areas, e.g. Beccles and Monks Soham (Mly).
Recent Suffolk Status: Fairly common.
Life history: Single-brooded.
Identification: Dingy shell normally rests with wings folded over the back, and is darker in colour.
