Status Morley's Final Catalogue: Doubtless mixed with the last species (NB. ? Gorleston 24 June 1926. - CM.)
Recent Suffolk Status: Scarce, with only a few recent records. Possibly overlooked.
Life history: Double-brooded. Larvae of Treble-bar (or Lesser Treble-bar) have been found in Suffolk in the autumn/winter on various St John's Wort seedheads.
Identification: The best way to distinguish Treble-bar from Lesser Treble-bar is to look at the claspers at the end of the abdomen on males. In Treble-bar these are long and quite pointed whilst on Lesser Treble-bar these are shorter and blunter. The angle of the inner bar is quite variable and open to interpretation on both species so isn't a reliable feature to use.
Habitat: Grasslands, woodland rides, gardens, hedgerows, scrub areas. | Retained Specimen / Photograph will be Required. | |
