Morley's Final Catalogue: A species of general, if somewhat local, distribution throughout the southern half of England, feeding on the commonest kinds of Suffolk umbells. Bloomfield excluded our records (Lep. Suff., p.55); but they may certainly be reinstated, with confidence of future confirmation.

Recent Suffolk Status: Very local, mainly in wet habitats.

Life history: Single-brooded. Larvae have been found on Wild angelica flowerheads in the county and have distinctive black heads which seperates them from the larvae of White-spotted pug.

Identification: A plain brown winged species with 3 black dots, but these are not always apparent. Similar brown-winged species normally have some white spotting. Some specimens may need dissection to confirm if quite worn.

Habitat: Wet woodland, fens, carr woodland, river valleys.
