Morley's Final Catalogue: Not recorded in the country during Morley's time.

The first British records were as recent as 2011 from Dartford, Kent. The moth has since spread to the home counties, including Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Recent Suffolk status: The first county record came from Felixstowe on the night of 27 November 2014 (M. Marsh & G. Stannard), with two further singletons from the same garden on 22 and 27 November 2019. The next county record came from Stutton on the night of 26 January 2020 (M. Nowers). The first record for VC26 was on the 31st January 2020 in Lackford (P. Lack).

A recent colonist to Britain, it is very likely that this species will become a regular feature in our county during the winter months.

Life History: Single-brooded. Noted on sugar and wine ropes as well as at light in the county. The adults hibernate, emerging again in the spring.

Identification: Compare with similar Red-headed Chestnut.

Habitats: Gardens and waste land.
