Morley's Final Catalogue: Nearly certainly extinct. Near Ipswich (Bree); Belstead (H. Lingwood); Bentley (Henry Miller, all three ante 1890), whence it has certainly died out. For a possible west Suffolk record, cf Entom. Weekly Intelligencer i, 1856, 151.

Recent Suffolk Status: Locally extinct.

Life history: Single-brooded.

Identification: Unmistakable.

Habitat: A wide range of habitats including woodland and grassland. Has declined drastically in southern England.
