Morley's Final Catalogue: Very common in Suffolk, teste W.C. Hewitson Esq. (Stephens, Illus. ii, 1829, p.197). Frequent here, as throughout southern England to Ross. Most usually feeding on lime; but imagines were taken amidst Raydon Wood in 1934, where there is no lime (D). Rarely flies to light in Ipswich, Monks Soham, Aldeburgh, Blythburgh and Beccles. Lothingland (Wiltshire). Little noticed in west Suffolk: Woolpit in 1906 (Rasor), &c.

Recent Suffolk Status: Widespread and common.

Life history: Single-brooded in one long extended generation. Gregarious larvae regularly found in late summer.

Identification: Unmistakable.
