Morley's Final Catalogue: A good deal less common than the last Hawk (Poplar), but very generally distributed, from Ipswich to Gorleston, usually found flying to light. Several larvae in Stowmarket, feeding on Ontario poplar (C, Ent. Wk. Int. vii, 116); rare in rural districts, e.g. Monks Soham on only 8 June 1915 in thirty years.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common and widespread.

Life history: Single brooded in late spring/summer. Occasional late records of adults in recent times.

Identification: Unmistakeable.

Habitats: Gardens, parks, woodland, wooded heathland, scrub.

Recorded in 53 (91%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1915.
Last Recorded in 2023.
