Morley's Final Catalogue: Broad spread among pine, but rarer than in Hants. Bentley fir wood in July 1894 (Mly, Hkg); Playford (Ent. Wk. Intell. ii, 1857, 11); Brightwell Wood in 1897-9 (Wlr); several in pine wood at Scots Hall in Westleton on 22 June 1921 (Vinter); Aldeburgh and Worlingham before 1890, Fritton in 1935, Blythburgh 1936. Stowmarket. Tuddenham and Mildenhall (Sparke), Brandon. Dalham.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common mainly in the Sandlings and Brecks with scattered records elsewhere. The much darker F. nigrofulvata has been noted in the county.

Life history: Double-brooded.

Identification: See Dusky peacock, which lacks the orange-brown outer band.

Habitat: Coniferous woods, plantations, heathland, gardens.

Recorded in 43 (74%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1894.
Last Recorded in 2023.
