Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Double-brooded. Larvae of this species (or Lesser Treble-bar) have been found in Suffolk in the autumn/winter on various St John's Wort seedheads.

Identification: The best way to distinguish this species from Lesser Treble-bar is to look at the claspers at the end of the abdomen on males. In Treble-bar these are long and quite pointed whilst on Lesser Treble-bar these are shorter and blunter. The angle of the inner bar is quite variable and open to interpretation on both species so isn't a reliable feature to use.

Habitat: Grasslands, woodland rides, gardens, hedgerows, scrub areas.
