Morley's Final Catalogue: No more than two specimens seem to be known with us. One taken at Bury by Nurse, and misnamed Bolitobia fuliginaria (Ent. 1878, 321); and a second that was attracted to electric light in the middle of Ipswich on 5 September 1893 (Mly).

Recent Suffolk Status: A fairly regular immigrant species.

Life history: Multi-brooded. Does breed in some years but cannot survive the UK winter at any stage currently. Appearing later in recent years, into November with a very late/ early record on 1st January 2022 (E. Jackson).

Identification: Unmistakeable. Males and females differ in colour, with females being much darker.

Habitat: Can appear in a wide variety of habitats including gardens.
