Morley's Final Catalogue: Scattered apparently thinly, over all the County excepting the north-east. One at dusk in Bentley Woods on 9 August 1899 (Mly); Copdock on 14 May 1896 (Hkg); Ipswich (Stn. Manual); Aldeburgh (Hele); Southwold in 1891 (Ctw). Needham (C); once at Bury (Norgate); West Stow (Wrt); Mildenhall (Skepper, Sparke).

Recent Suffolk Status: Extinct. Last record in Suffolk was in 2009, in the Brecks. In steep decline nationally.

Life history: Double brooded.

Identification: Birch mocha is cream, not buff. Second brood Clay triple lines lack freckling.

Habitat: Scrubby Oak woodland on heathland. Said not to prefer Oaks growing in woodland.
