Morley's Final Catalogue: Common throughout the County in March and April, from Bentley to Gorleston.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Single brooded. Emerging earlier than formerly, sometimes appearing in late January in recent years. Flightless females rarely seen. Larvae regularly recorded in early summer on various trees.

Identification: Unmistakeable.

Habitat: Woodland, wooded gardens, scrub woodland on heathland, hedgerows.

Recorded in 52 (90%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1939.
Last Recorded in 2024.
